Current Research Projects

Exhumation history of the late Neoproterozoic East African-Antarctic Orogen during Gondwana break-up: Reactivation of Neoproterozoic shear zones; quantifying exhumation along the new continental margin (E-Antarctica, Madagascar, Mozambique) using fission-track analyses; modelling denudation vs. sedimentation rates along the E-Antarctic continental shelf (marine geophysics); comparison with continental margin profiles in Madagascar and Mozambique.

East African/Antarctic Orogen (640-500 Ma): Southern extension of the East African Orogen into East Antarctica; structural evolution along the western orogenic front of the EAAO; geochronology of high-grade rocks within the core of the EAAO; structure and timing of orogenic collapse and S-directed escape tectonics; correlation with the Mozambique Belt and adjacent parts in Gondwana

Position of Kalahari in Rodinia and collision history along the c. 1.1 Ga Namaqua-Natal-Maud Belt:  Structural analysis of craton-parallel shear zones; Ar-Ar dating of shear zones; geochronology of high-grade metamorphism; position of the Haag block;  significance for Rodinia reconstructions; review of a possible correlation of Kalahari with Western Australia, detrital zircon analyses on Mesoproterozoic sedimentary rocks.
